Inspired by Bran, the Celtic god of regeneration, I focused on his cauldron of rebirth, which has the power to bring back the dead, as depicted in the Mabinogion. Based on early medieval copper pots that would be crafted by hand and shaped through hammering and bending each panel hand cut and shaped to come together and create the final form. To reflect the cauldron's broken state, I settled on stone spilling from out of the upturned pot using local Welsh Pennant stone the fragments symbolizing the loss of its power. The stone's arrangement is taken from the beautiful forms created by rushing water, connecting the sculpture to its local environment and the streams of Cwmcarn Forest.
Permanent sculpture for Caerphilly borough council at Cwmcarn Forest drive.
